About

Last year, I was struck by how bizarre the news out of Washington, DC had become. I'm middle aged, and have been watching politics for a good 40 years and of course seen lying, cheating, and manipulating, but never such obvious and heavy handed examples of it.  Each day, I thought things couldn't get stranger, but each day they did. Unfortunately when we are immersed in strange things long enough it starts to seem normal to us. I decided I didn't want all of this odd behavior to become normalized, and maybe if I saw it all in one place, I could keep it in perspective. It seems to work.

This year, I bought a small Moleskine calendar and started jotting bits out of the news or speeches...things that would hopefully sum up a day, or catch the gist of what happened. Whenever possible I use quotes because, lately, I make it habit to try and listen to the actual person saying the actual words (or use their written words), instead of relying on some report or summary. Some days, so much is happening I just have to choose one thing out of many. Some days politicians say one thing and then hours later completely deny they said it, or say the complete opposite. Thank goodness that there is video and print that records it as they tweet, post, or speak.

Please bear with me on the drawings. I am still learning to draw humans, and on this blog you will see what I drew...good, bad, or ugly. Not all drawings turn out well, and this is just one part of my day, so you get to see whatever happens to fall from my pen. Obviously I don't personally know the movers and shakers of our country, so when I draw I find several images and work from all of them to come up with something that is not a copy of any particular photo. Sometimes I sketch as I watch a speech or news report.
